Privacy notice.
How personal information is handled through edwardjohnsauthor.com.
Last updated: 21 July 2026
This notice explains how personal information is handled when you use edwardjohnsauthor.com, contact Edward Johns or join the reader list.
Who is responsible for your information
Edward Johns is the person responsible for the personal information described in this notice. Privacy enquiries and rights requests can be sent to me@edwardjohnsauthor.com.
Information collected through the contact form
If you use the contact form or email directly, the information received may include your name, email address, the subject and content of your message, and anything else you choose to provide.
This information is used to receive, consider and respond to your enquiry and to manage any resulting correspondence. The usual lawful basis is legitimate interests. Where information must be retained to meet a legal obligation or manage a legal claim, another relevant lawful basis may apply.
Reader-list information
If you join the reader list, the information collected is your first name, email address, sign-up source and technical confirmation information such as the date, time and IP address associated with the opt-in process.
This information is used only to send occasional author news, writing updates, publication information, cover reveals, early-reading opportunities and related subscriber material. The lawful basis is your consent. The sign-up uses double opt-in, so you must confirm your email address before becoming an active subscriber.
You may withdraw consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link included in every mailing-list email or by contacting me@edwardjohnsauthor.com. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that took place before withdrawal.
Service providers
The website is hosted by Netlify, which may process website and form data as a service provider. Reader-list subscriptions and emails are managed through MailerLite. Email providers may process direct messages and notifications. Professional advisers or public authorities may receive information where this is reasonably necessary or legally required.
Personal information is not sold to advertisers or data brokers.
International processing
Netlify, MailerLite and other service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where required, the relevant provider is expected to use appropriate legal and contractual safeguards for international transfers.
How long information is kept
General enquiry correspondence will ordinarily be kept for no longer than 24 months after the last meaningful contact, unless it is no longer needed sooner or there is a clear legal, contractual or business reason to retain it for longer.
Reader-list information is kept while you remain subscribed. After unsubscribing, limited information may be retained on a suppression list so that your preference not to receive further marketing is respected. You may also request deletion, subject to any information that must be retained for legal or compliance purposes.
Cookies and analytics
This version of the website does not use optional analytics, advertising cookies or behavioural tracking. The custom reader-list forms communicate with a same-site Netlify function and do not embed MailerLite’s tracking script on the website. A cookie consent banner is therefore not currently displayed. This notice and the site’s consent controls will be updated before non-essential technologies are introduced.
Security and spam protection
The site uses validation, hidden spam-trap fields and server-side processing to reduce misuse of its forms. No security measure can guarantee absolute protection, but reasonable steps are taken to limit access and avoid exposing service credentials in the browser.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to ask for access to your personal information, correction of inaccurate information, deletion, restriction of use, objection to processing, withdrawal of consent or transfer of information. Requests can be made by emailing me@edwardjohnsauthor.com.
You also have the right to raise a concern with the Information Commissioner’s Office. More information is available on the ICO website.

This notice may be updated as the website, mailing list or services used by the site change. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last revised.
